The Los Angeles Existing Buildings Energy and Water Efficiency Ordinance requires buildings to benchmark energy and water use annually and complete audits and retro-commissioning every five years to improve performance and reduce environmental impact.

San Francisco (EBO)
The San Francisco Building Performance Ordinance (BPO) requires large buildings to benchmark energy use annually and meet performance targets or complete audits and upgrades every five years to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.

Denver (Energize Denver)
The Energize Denver Building Performance Policy requires large buildings to benchmark annually and meet energy‑efficiency targets in 2028 and 2032. Many buildings will also need third‑party data verification, target adjustments, or ASHRAE Level 2 audits to stay compliant and improve performance.

New York City (LL84)
New York City’s Local Law 84 (LL84) requires buildings to benchmark their annual energy and, when applicable, water use in order to track performance, increase transparency, and support citywide efficiency and emissions‑reduction efforts.

San Jose (BPO)
The San José Energy and Water Building Performance Ordinance (BPO) requires buildings to benchmark energy and water use annually and comply with the city's Beyond Benchmarking program every five years through audits, retro-commissioning, or upgrades to meet performance standards and improve efficiency.

Seattle’s building performance ordinances require buildings to benchmark energy use and emissions annually, comply with citywide greenhouse‑gas emissions standards under BEPS, and complete periodic operational tune‑ups to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

The Berkeley Building Energy Saving Ordinance (BESO) requires large buildings to annually disclose energy use and complete comprehensive energy assessments every five years to identify savings opportunities and support long-term efficiency improvements.
