Saving energy and water through building compliance programs nationwide.

  • Los Angeles Skyline

    Los Angeles (EBEWE)

The Los Angeles Existing Buildings Energy and Water Efficiency Ordinance requires buildings to benchmark energy and water use annually and complete audits and retro-commissioning every five years to improve performance and reduce environmental impact.

  • San Francisco Landscape

    San Francisco (EBO)

The San Francisco Building Performance Ordinance (BPO) requires large buildings to benchmark energy use annually and meet performance targets or complete audits and upgrades every five years to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.

  • Skyline of Manhattan with One World Trade Center and other skyscrapers along the waterfront.

    New York City (LL84)

New York City’s Local Law 84 (LL84) requires buildings to benchmark their annual energy and, when applicable, water use in order to track performance, increase transparency, and support citywide efficiency and emissions‑reduction efforts.

  • A city skyline featuring a historic building with a gold-domed roof in the foreground, and modern skyscrapers against a clear blue sky.

    Denver (Energize Denver)

The Energize Denver Building Performance Policy requires large buildings to benchmark annually and meet energy‑efficiency targets in 2028 and 2032. Many buildings will also need third‑party data verification, target adjustments, or ASHRAE Level 2 audits to stay compliant and improve performance.

  • San Jose Skyline

    San Jose (BPO)

The San José Energy and Water Building Performance Ordinance (BPO) requires buildings to benchmark energy and water use annually and comply with the city's Beyond Benchmarking program every five years through audits, retro-commissioning, or upgrades to meet performance standards and improve efficiency.

  • Seattle Skyline

    Seattle (Benchmarking, BEPS & Tune‑Ups)

Seattle’s building performance ordinances require buildings to benchmark energy use and emissions annually, comply with citywide greenhouse‑gas emissions standards under BEPS, and complete periodic operational tune‑ups to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

  • Bay Area Skyline

    Berkeley (BESO)

The Berkeley Building Energy Saving Ordinance (BESO) requires large buildings to annually disclose energy use and complete comprehensive energy assessments every five years to identify savings opportunities and support long-term efficiency improvements.

  • California City

    Assembly Bill 802

California AB 802 requires large commercial and multifamily buildings to benchmark energy use annually and report data to the California Energy Commission by June 1. The program promotes transparency and helps track statewide building performance over time.

  • Aerial view of a Washington city skyline with glass high‑rise buildings under dramatic clouds.

    Washington (CBPS)

Washington State’s Clean Buildings Performance Standard (CBPS) requires covered buildings to monitor energy performance, implement efficiency practices, and meet state‑defined performance requirements to reduce energy consumption, strengthen building operations, and support statewide greenhouse‑gas reduction goals.

  • View of downtown Portland at sunset featuring the illuminated ‘Portland Oregon – Old Town’ sign.

    Oregon (BPS)

The Oregon Building Energy Performance Standard requires large commercial and multifamily buildings to benchmark energy use, evaluate performance against state-defined energy targets, and complete audits and efficiency measures when needed to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions statewide.
